Gamification and competitions are useful not only in the educational sphere, but in the business world as well. There’s nothing quite like a friendly competition to get people involved and engaged. The following steps will show you how to set up competition questions for your next presentation.
Creating a competition
Step 1: To create a competition, tap the Activity button at the top left of your Activities page.
Step 2: Select Competition then enter your question and possible answers.
Note: You will only be able to use Multiple choice questions in Competitions.
Step 3: Designate the correct answer by clicking the check mark symbol to the left of the answer.
Helpful note: While multiple correct answers can be created, only one choice can be selected by participants.
Step 4: Add additional questions to your competition by clicking on the Add another question button.
Helpful tip: You can add your Competition to a preexisting Folder using the dropdown menu to the left of the Create button.
Step 5: Once you are done adding questions, click the Create button at the bottom right. You will be immediately taken to the competition slideshow page.
Note: Competitions cannot be locked or unlocked like other Activity types. Competitions will automatically lock a question when the timer runs out.
Competition settings
- Restrict participants will require participants to sign-in and formally register with your presenter account before responding. Note: We recommend you use the Screen name feature with Competitions to identify participants.
- Allow changing answers will let participants clear their response to a question and submit a new one.
- Enable timer will limit how much time participants have to answer each question. You can adjust the time based on how much you want to give participants. You can set the timer anywhere between 5 seconds to 180 seconds max. The time limit applies to all questions in the competition. It is not possible to set different time limits for individual questions.
If you choose not to use timed responses, tap the toggle to turn it off. Doing so will create an “all or nothing” style Competition.
Scoring
When using timed responses, each question starts with a value of 1000 points and decreases as time passes. The longer participants take to answer a question, the fewer points they’ll earn. When the timer is not used, responses will be worth a flat 1000 points and scored solely on correctness. This process is automated and cannot be changed by the presenter.
Helpful tip: If you run into a tie, we recommend adding a tie-breaker question to your Competition to break up the score.
Edit your Competition
Step 1: Select the Competition on your Activities page.
Step 2: Select the slide you want to edit.
Step 3: Click the Edit button on the preview slide.
Step 4: When you’re finished editing, click the Save button near the bottom right.
Delete a question
The Delete button to the right of the preview slide will delete a question from your Competition. Keep in mind that this is a hard delete. There is no recycle bin where deleted data can be recovered, so be certain before you delete any of your slides.
Add a question
Click the Add question button at the top left of the Competition edit screen to add a new question slide to an existing Competition. The new slide will be added to the end of your Competition.
Rearrange the questions
If you decide you want to run your Competition in a different order, you can use the up and down arrow buttons on the preview slides to rearrange the questions in your Competition.
Clear
The Clear responses button at the bottom of the main Competition slide will clear all the responses to your Competition and enable you to run the Competition another time.
Note: This clears all the responses for the entire Competition, not just the slide you’re currently focused on.
