Poll Everywhere for Google Slides fits seamlessly into your presentation. Check for comprehension, collect live input, or host an interactive Q&A with Poll Everywhere.
After installing the Poll Everywhere for Google Slides Chrome extension and inserting some activities into your presentation you’re ready to present.
When presenting with Poll Everywhere for Google Slides, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Install the extension
The Poll Everywhere for Google Slides extension must be installed on the computer you plan to present from.
One of the beauties of Google Suite is the ability to collaborate with others as well as access your files from different computers. If, for example, you plan to present from the computer of a colleague with whom you’ve shared your presentation, make sure they have the Poll Everywhere for Google Slides extension installed on their computer as well.
You must be logged into your account using the Poll Everywhere for Google Slides extension.
While this isn’t usually an issue when using your own computer, it does come up when presenting from someone else’s. In the example above, you would need to make sure that on your colleague’s machine you were logged into your own Poll Everywhere account, not your colleague’s.
Present
Activities are only activated and displayed while in presentation mode.
As mentioned in the article on inserting activities into your presentation, after activities have been inserted, slides with mockups of the activities appear in the presentation deck. To use your activity during your presentation, click the Present button in the Google Chrome toolbar to begin your presentation as usual.
An activity will remain locked and unavailable for response until you navigate to that slide during your presentation. Once you do, the live activity will be displayed and (by default) unlock and ready to receive responses. Once you navigate away from the slide, the activity will be closed to further responses.
Helpful Tip: If you are using Google Slides to show a presentation which was imported from a pre-made PowerPoint or Keynote file you will need to use the Poll Everywhere for Google Slides extension to reinsert any Poll Everywhere activities which were part of the original file. Unfortunately pre-existing activity slides from PowerPoint or Keynote files won’t work after being imported into Google Slides.
Activity flows
The Activity flows feature allows you to reveal multiple choice activity results by navigating through your slide deck rather than interacting with the activity tools. This is handy if you’re not standing at the presentation computer, but using a clicker to navigate through your deck. Check out the Activity flows article for more information about using this feature.
Competitions
When presenting a competition you can clear the responses from within Google Slides without having to switch to the web. To do this, go to the Welcome slide, hover over the top right side of slide and click the Clear responses.
Helpful tip: This is the only activity slide button you’ll see on a competition and it will only appear on the Welcome slide.
