Rich Text Formatting

Poll Everywhere 2.0 supports rich text formatting in question titles and choices, allowing presenters to create clearer, more expressive questions. Rich text works consistently across supported browsers and presentation tools, including PowerPoint on macOS and Windows.

You can apply rich text formatting to question titles and choices to emphasize key information, improve readability, or display mathematical expressions.

Basic formatting options are available directly in the editor, including bold and italic text. These options are suitable for most everyday use cases and are fully supported across platforms.

Text Control

You can also use the Tt text control to adjust the inline text size of a question title. This allows you to increase or decrease the font size as needed, helping ensure titles are readable in large rooms or visually balanced with other content.

These controls are designed for everyday use and require no special syntax.

Lists (Numbering and Bulleting)

Numbered and bulleted lists are now supported and display correctly when presenting.

You can include:

  • Numbered lists (1, 2, 3…)
  • Bulleted lists
  • Mixed lists (for example, a numbered list followed by bullet points)

This makes it easier to:

  • Break up multi-part questions
  • Present ordered steps or priorities
  • Improve readability for longer prompts

Markdown formatting (advanced)

For users who prefer more control, we also support Markdown-style formatting. This allows you to apply formatting by typing special characters directly into the editor.

Markdown examples

Typing the following in the editor will automatically format your text:

  • **bold** → bold
  • *italic* → italic

Markdown formatting works anywhere rich text is supported, including question titles and choices.

Adjusting title size with headings (advanced)

If you need more precise control over text size, you can use Markdown-style headings to create relative size differences within a question title.

This is especially useful when you want:

  • A large main title with smaller subtext
  • Section labels or categories above a question
  • Visual hierarchy without separate slides

For example:

  • ## creates a larger heading
  • ####, ######, and beyond create progressively smaller text

You can mix heading levels to achieve the layout that looks best for your presentation.

Tip: This is an advanced technique. For most use cases, the Tt control is the simplest and most predictable option.

Math and equation support (LaTeX)

We support LaTeX for displaying mathematical equations. Raw equation code is automatically converted into clean, readable math when shown to participants. Inline and display math can be used alongside Markdown and other rich text formatting.
