Brightspace LMS LTI 1.3 Advantage - Integration guide for Brightspace System Administrators

    Introduction

    This guide is for Brightspace Administrators and describes how to integrate Poll Everywhere with a Brightspace LMS system using LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage. These steps should only be followed by the Brightspace administrator who will be performing the initial setup to use Poll Everywhere on the LMS.

    Users who want to manage LTI 1.3 tools must have permission in Brightspace to register new LTI Advantage tools and then deploy tools into courses or organizations. The individual performing this setup will also need access to the University’s Poll Everywhere account as either an Account Owner or Account Admin.

    Register a new LTI Advantage tool:

    Step 1: Start by logging into Brightspace as the Brightspace administrator.

    Step 2: From the Admin Tools menu, click Manage Extensibility.

    Step 3: Click on the LTI Advantage tab, click Register Tool.

    Step 4: Select Standard. This will expand a form.

    Step 5: Open a new browser tab, navigate to PollEverywhere.com, and log in to the university’s account with an account owner or admin profile.

    Step 6: Within your Poll Everywhere account, click on the gear icon in the bottom left-hand corner followed by LMS Integration. This is the page where you will manage your LTI 1.3 Platform. Select Add platform.

    Step 7: On the next page, select Brightspace from the dropdown list of platform options, and Save.

    Step 8: This is the Poll Everywhere LTI 1.3 Platform details page. You will use the information from the fields of this page to continue the LTI Advantage tool setup on Brightspace.

    Step 9: Next, copy the information from the Poll Everywhere Platform details page into the Brightspace LTI Advantage tool configuration. Use the copy link icon next to each field for easy transposing.

    Note: Add a Name, Description, and Domain to create the tool. The Name and Description can be any value, but the Domain should be the Poll Everywhere homepage: https://www.polleverywhere.com

    Step 10: Under Extensions, ensure that all three checkboxes are enabled:

      1. Assignment and Grade Service
      2. Deep Linking
      3. Names and Role Provisioning Services

    Step 11: Under Roles, ensure that Send Institutional Role is enabled.

    Step 12: After clicking Register, a pop-up will appear with the following fields. Head back over to the Poll Everywhere Platform edit page. Complete the remaining fields on the Poll Everywhere form.

    Step 13: Click Save once all the fields are complete.

    The setup on Poll Everywhere is now complete, Follow the instructions below to deploy the tool:

    Deploy the LTI Advantage tool

    Step 1: In Brightspace, under the Admin Tools menu, click External Learning Tools.

    Step 2: Under the LTI Advantage tab, click New Deployment.

    Step 3: Complete the form with the following values and Click on Create Deployment button:

    a. Tool: From the dropdown select the previously registered tool

    b. Name: Any value

    c. Description: Any value

    d. Security Settings:

        1. Enable Org Unit Information
        2. Enable User Information
        3. Enable Link Information
        4. Enable Classlist including users not known to tool

    e. Add Org Units: Any organization or courses that can use the tool
