Poll Everywhere offers generative AI features that allow presenters to create or improve polls with the help of artificial intelligence. These features are designed to enhance the user experience, reduce manual effort.
This article explains how our generative AI system works, what data is used, and how your information is protected.
Technical implementation details
Poll Everywhere uses a pre-trained generative AI model called Gemini Flash, provided by Google. When you use the AI to create or improve a poll:
Poll Everywhere sends a system prompt (created by us) and your user prompt (what you type) to the Gemini Flash model.
The system prompt helps the AI understand our poll structure, format expectations, and safety guidelines.
Gemini Flash processes both inputs and returns a suggested poll, along with any status messages or safety concerns.
You can then review and use the generated content in your poll activity.
What Data is Used
To protect your privacy, Poll Everywhere only sends the following to the AI model:
Your individual prompt (the text you type when creating or improving a poll)
A Poll Everywhere system prompt that guides the AI on how to format the poll properly
We do not send any of the following:
Historical polls or responses
Participant information
Personally identifiable information (PII)
Any content from your account beyond the single prompt
Additionally, each customer’s data is automatically separated from others. AI queries do not include, reference, or access data from other customers.
Model Training and Data Usage
Poll Everywhere does not use customer data to train any AI model, including generative AI models from Google.
The AI model (Gemini Flash) is pre-trained and not fine-tuned with your data.
Google does not retain or use Poll Everywhere customer data for AI model training or fine-tuning.
This applies to all users, including those with free, paid, or enterprise accounts, across all account types.
Data Retention
To ensure responsible use, Poll Everywhere logs AI activity for security, compliance, and legal purposes:
We retain access logs, including the user prompt and AI response, for 1 year as outlined in our Privacy Policy.
Google retains safety information related to each AI query for 55 days, for the purposes of ensuring that their safety requirements are being met, and that we are using their service in a supported manner.
This retention period is fixed. Requests to delete these logs before expiration cannot be fulfilled.
