A Competition is a multi-question game-style poll where participants earn points for correct answers. Scores are tracked in real time and displayed on a live leaderboard between questions. It is designed to drive engagement through friendly competition.

Use case: Knowledge checks, review sessions, training assessments, event quizzes, and any context where engagement and motivation are priorities.

Creating a Competition manually

1. Go to Polls and select Competition (Recommended or Other tab).
2. A new Competition opens with questions and Leaderboard slides in the slide pane.
3. Click the question title and type your first question, then type your answer choices.
4. Click into the correct choice and select ✓ to mark it correct.
5. Use Add in the slide pane to add more questions or Leaderboard slides.

Creating a Competition with AI

Poll Everywhere's Create with AI tool can generate a full Competition, including questions, answer choices, and correct answer markers, from a single prompt. This is the fastest way to build a quiz from scratch.

To create a Competition using AI:

1. Go to Polls and select Start with AI.
2. Type a prompt describing your quiz, for example "Create a 5-question competition about the water cycle for university students".
3. Select Create with AI. The competition opens with questions, choices, correct answers and Leaderboard slides.
4. Review each question and click any field to edit it. Add, remove or reorder questions and Leaderboard slides in the slide pane.

Helpful tip: To refine questions after creation, open the AI Assistant in the top bar and ask, for example, "Make questions 3–5 harder", "Fix spelling and grammar" or "Add a fifth answer choice to every question".

All Competition questions can use a multiple-choice format. Each question must have at least one answer marked as correct for points to be awarded.

Leaderboard

A Leaderboard slide is inserted between questions. Before anyone scores, it reads "No participants with correct answers yet". It shows:

• Participant display names
• Points accumulated so far

Note: The leaderboard updates after each question is completed. You can add or remove Leaderboard slides from the left panel. Points are awarded to participants who select the correct answer. Scoring is automatic, no manual grading required. When Lock is pressed on a question or the timer runs out, the question stops accepting responses and the correct answer is revealed to participants (if Correctness is enabled).

Participant experience

Participants join via the join code or QR code. For each question, they:

1. See the question and answer choices
2. Select their answer
3. See whether they were correct on the presenter screen (if Correctness is on)
4. See the live leaderboard between questions, showing their current rank and score

Presenting

1. Click Present to go live
2. Navigate between questions using the ← → arrows at the bottom
3. Lock each question when time is up to stop responses and reveal results
4. Advance to the Leaderboard slide to show rankings
5. Continue through all questions and end with a final leaderboard
6. Click Exit (bottom left) to return to the editor
