In this article:
Participants and Participant Groups give you a structured way to manage who can respond to your polls, grade their work, and track their engagement — all without needing an LMS integration.
Note: Participants and Participant Groups are available on the Educator, Campus-Wide, Engage, and Enterprise plans. The feature is enabled automatically — no setup required.
The Participants Section
Access Participants from the left navigation bar. The section has three tabs: Manage, Participant Groups, and Import.
Manage Tab
The Manage tab shows all participants in your organisation workspace as a table with the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Participant's display name or email |
| Participant's email address | |
| Status | Current invitation status: Invited or Expired |
| Last Active | When the participant last responded to a poll |
| Joined / Invited | Date and time the participant joined or was invited |
You can search participants by name or email using the search bar, and sort by any column header.
Per-participant actions (⋮ menu): Each participant row has a three-dot menu with the following options:
- Resend Invitation: Re-sends the organsation invitation email to a participant who hasn't joined yet
- Revoke Invitation: This means the invitation link you sent to the user will no longer work.
- Remove User: removes the participant from the organisation
Looking for LMS-connected rosters? A banner at the top of the Manage tab links to Courses for syncing rosters via LTI.
Participant Groups Tab
Participant Groups let you organise participants into named groups for three purposes: restricting poll access, creating graded assignments, and tracking attendance. To create a group:
- Go to Participant Groups tab
- Click New Group
- Add members manually by entering emails directly into the group, or use Import to bulk-add from CSV
Groups can be created by any user with access to Participants. All groups across the organisation — including those created by other users are available when setting audience restrictions or managing assignments.
Inside a Participant Group
Each group has three tabs: Members, Assignments, and Attendance.
Members Tab
Shows all participants in the group with:
- Email — participant's email address
- Added By — which presenter/admin added them
- Status — Active or otherwise
- Actions — delete (trash icon) to remove from the group
You can also add new members directly from this tab using the email input field and the Add button.
Assignments Tab
Assignments give you a grading workflow for Participant Groups without needing an LTI setup.
To create an assignment:
- Open a Participant Group → click Assignments and then click New
- A Select Resources panel opens automatically
- Browse My Polls or Shared With Me, select desired polls or questions to include in the assignment
Click Save Selection
- Configure grading settings for the assignment
What you can derive from assignments:
- Grades — based on correctness of responses
- Participation — who responded and how many questions they answered
- Correctness — how many questions each participant answered correctly
- Attendance — whether participants were present for the session
Results can be exported as a CSV for use in an external grade book.
This mirrors the grading and export functionality available through LTI, but works entirely through Participant Groups — no LMS connection required.
Attendance Tab
Tracks attendance records for the group. Available when attendance polls have been run with the group as the audience restriction.
Audience Restrictions via Participant Groups
Once Participant Groups exist in your organisation, they can be used to restrict who can respond to any individual poll.
To add a Participant Group restriction to a poll:
- Open a poll in the editor
- Open the Audience panel in the right rail
- Under Participation Restrictions, select one or more Participant Groups from the dropdown
How the dropdown works:
- The dropdown shows every Participant Group in the organisation — including groups created by other presenters
- Selecting multiple groups applies a union — any participant who belongs to at least one of the selected groups can respond
- You can manage groups created by others as long as you have access to the Participants section
Import Tab
The Import tab is the primary way to add participants to your workspace.
To import participants:
- Go to the Import tab
- Choose your import method — CSV or Email toggle in the top right
- CSV method:
- Click Download our CSV template to see the expected column format
- Populate the template with the members you want to invite
- Drag and drop the file into the upload area, or click Browse File
- Optionally assign participants to one or more Participant Groups during import — the import preview shows which groups people are being added to
- Click Preview to review before confirming
- Email method: Enter email addresses directly, separated by commas
Invitation status indicators shown during import:
- Green email icon — participant will receive a new workspace invitation
- Yellow email icon — participant has already been invited and will not receive a duplicate
