The Poll Everywhere 2.0 add-in for Microsoft 365 PowerPoint lets you insert live polls directly into your slide deck and run them from within PowerPoint. This article covers how to install the add-in, insert a question onto a slide, and manage question settings when you edit during a presentation.
Installing the add-in
There are two ways to get the add-in: from your Poll Everywhere account or directly through PowerPoint.
From your Poll Everywhere account
- Open your Poll Everywhere account in a browser
- Select Poll in PowerPoint under the “Slideware Apps” from the left-hand navigation
- Follow the on-screen prompts to install the Microsoft 365 add-in
From within PowerPoint
- Open PowerPoint and go to the Home tab
- Click Get Add-ins or Office Add-ins
- Search for Poll Everywhere 2.0
- Click Add and follow the on-screen instructions
Inserting a question into your presentation
Once the add-in is installed and you are signed in:
Open PowerPoint and click on the Poll Everywhere 2.0 tab in the ribbon.
Browse your poll library or folders directly from within PowerPoint.
Select a group or individual questions you want to insert.
Click Insert Slides to add the interactive activity to your presentation.
Tips for Effective Poll Placement: Think strategically about where you want to insert polls within your slide deck: Place questions after key concepts to check for understanding and use engagement activities like word clouds or clickable images at transitions or breaks. Add attendance questions or participation polls at the beginning of your session.
You can easily move polls around within your deck just like any other slide to match your flow.
Editing a question during a presentation
You can edit a question on the fly without leaving PowerPoint. The Edit button appears in the lower-left corner of the poll slide while you are presenting.
- Click Edit on the question slide
- Make your changes in the edit panel
- Click Save Question Settings
- Click Done to return to your presentation
Between presentations, you can toggle the question state freely. For example, showing or hiding responses. Those in-session changes are preserved while the question stays inactive, whether or not you are actively presenting.
When you click Save Question Settings, you are committing the current configuration as the default state for the next time the question is activated. Think of it as locking in your intent.
Helpful tips: The correct flow: Edit → Save Question Settings → Done. when you present the question, any in-session toggles that were not saved are discarded. The question resets to whatever state you last committed with Save Question Settings.
