Poll Everywhere 2.0 Brightspace Dynamic Registration (recommended) Setup Guide for Administrators

    Introduction

    Instructors can import their course rosters from their school’s Brightspace LMS into Poll Everywhere. This automatically registers each student as a Poll Everywhere participant. Registering students with Poll Everywhere allows educators to easily identify how students responded to their activities and export Poll Everywhere gradebook reports as grade columns within Brightspace.

    Admin setup via Dynamic Registration

    Register Tool

    1. In a Poll Everywhere 2.0 account that has valid permissions and Courses enabled, navigate to https://pe.app/a/settings/lti_configurations?provider=brightspace
    2. In Brightspace as an Administrator, navigate to Manage Extensibility -> LTI Advantage -> Register Tool.

    3. Select Dynamic and paste the Dynamic Registration URL link from Poll Everywhere 2.0 into Brightspace Tool initiation registration endpoint.

    4. Leave Configure Deployment checked and click Register.

    5. You will see a Poll Everywhere LTI Tool Registration window. Click Register.

      • Note: For multiple connections to the same LMS, the name of the tool must be unique.

      • To resolve the unique name, select your other Poll Everywhere 2.0 which can be found in Brightspace -> External Learning Tools and select All. Find the other instance of "Poll Everywhere 2.0" and edit the tool name to something other than "Poll Everywhere 2.0". Then save.

    6. After clicking Register, you should see a "Registration Successful" window. This  can be closed and you can return back to Brightspace.

    Enable the Tool

    1. In Brightspace -> Manage Extensibility -> LTI Advantage -> Register Tool, select Disabled to view a list of disabled tools.

    2. Locate the newly added Poll Everywhere 2.0 tool and select it.

    3. Toggle Enabled to true then Save and Close.

      1. If you are configuring multiple instances, you will need to have a unique domain. This can be resolved by updating the domain from https://pe.app to https://www.pe.app. If these are both used, you can postfix the domain with a query string such as https://pe.app?university=true

    Create a New Deployment

    1. In Brightspace -> External Learning tools -> LTI Advantage, select New Deployment.

    2. Check Enabled.

    3. For Tool, select the Tool you just created (By default, this is named Poll Everywhere 2.0) from the list.

    4. Give it a name. Suggested name would be Poll Everywhere 2.0 or Poll Everywhere.

    5. Optionally give it a description for Instructors.

    6. Ensure the following Extensions and Security Settings are selected for the deployment via the image below.

    7. For Custom Parameters, click Add Custom Parameter and give "placement" as the name and "course_navigation" as the value.

    8. Click Create Deployment.

    9. On the success pop up, click View Links for the next step.

     

    Create a Link

    Step 1: Continuing from the previous step or in Brightspace -> External Learning tools -> LTI Advantage -> Poll Everywhere 2.0 -> View Links, select New Link.

     

    a. Deployment: Select the tool deployment previously created by a Brightspace Administrator.

    b. Name: Poll Everywhere

    c. URL: https://pe.app/a/lti/courses

    d. Description: Any value
     

    Step 2: Click Add Custom Parameter under "Customer Parameters". Add placement as the name and course_navigation as the value.

    Step 3: Click Save and Close.
     

    From here on out, Instructors should be able to add Poll Everywhere 2.0 as a link in their course nav bar.
