Introduction
Instructors can import their course rosters from their school's Moodle LMS into Poll Everywhere. This automatically registers each student as a Poll Everywhere participant. Registering students with Poll Everywhere allows educators to easily identify how students responded to their activities and export Poll Everywhere gradebook reports as grade columns within Moodle.
Pre-requisites
- Ensure your Moodle administrator has registered Poll Everywhere 2.0 as an LTI tool. See: Poll Everywhere 2.0 Moodle Setup Guide for Administrators
- Ensure you are logged in to Moodle as an instructor with course editing access
Add Poll Everywhere 2.0 to a Course
Step 1: Navigate to the course you wish to add Poll Everywhere to.
Step 2: Turn on Edit mode using the toggle in the top navigation bar.
Step 3: Click the + button in the desired course section and select Activity or resource.
Step 4: In the activity chooser, search for Poll Everywhere 2.0 and select it.
Step 5: Give the activity a name (e.g., "Poll Everywhere") and click Save and return to course.
Step 6: Click the newly created activity link in your course content to launch Poll Everywhere.
Step 7: If this is your first time, you will be prompted to log in to your Poll Everywhere account and link the course.
Step 8: Your Moodle course will be linked to Poll Everywhere. You can now create and present activities directly from the course.
Using Poll Everywhere 2.0 in Your Course
After launching Poll Everywhere from Moodle:
Step 1: On your first launch, you will be asked to log in to your Poll Everywhere account. Use your existing Poll Everywhere credentials or create a new account.
Step 2: Your Moodle course roster will automatically sync with Poll Everywhere. Students enrolled in the Moodle course will appear as participants.
Step 3: You can now:
- Create and present interactive activities (multiple choice, word clouds, Q&A, etc.)
- View individual student responses
- Export grades back to Moodle's gradebook
Gradebook Integration
Poll Everywhere can sync grades back to your Moodle gradebook:
Step 1: Create a graded activity in Poll Everywhere.
Step 2: After students respond, Poll Everywhere will push scores to Moodle's gradebook as a grade item.
Step 3: Review grades in Moodle under Grades in the course navigation.
Troubleshooting
"Poll Everywhere 2.0 not in the activity chooser": Contact your Moodle administrator to ensure the tool has been registered and configured with "Show in activity chooser and as a preconfigured tool." See the Administrator Setup Guide for details.
"Unable to link course" or "No courses" error: Ensure you are logged in as an instructor (not a student) and that you have editing permissions in the Moodle course. Also verify that the email in your Moodle account matches your Poll Everywhere account.
"Roster not syncing": Verify that the administrator enabled Names and Roles Provisioning (roster sync) when registering the tool. Contact your admin if needed.
"Session expired" or cookie errors: Ensure third-party cookies are not blocked in your browser. Safari users should disable "Prevent cross-site tracking" under Privacy settings. Your administrator may also need to enable "Allow frame embedding" in Moodle's HTTP security settings.
Grades not appearing in Moodle: Ensure students accessed the activity through the Moodle deep link, not directly through Poll Everywhere. Grade sync requires the LTI context established by the deep link.
