Once you have a Competition created and set up the way you want, you’re ready to present it. This article will walk you through the steps to present your Competition and show you how your audience will respond to it.
Helpful tip: For best results, you’ll want to ask participants to enter a screen name before they respond to the Competition. If screen names are turned off then participants will receive an auto-generated name. The screen names settings can be found under My settings > Poll settings. For more information and detailed instructions, visit the Screen names article.
Starting the Competition
From the Competition slideshow view, highlight the welcome slide of your Competition and click the Play button at the top of the page.
Helpful tip: You can also insert Competitions into PowerPoint, Keynote, and Google Slides and conduct them from your presentation slide deck.
Welcome slide
The welcome slide of your Competition will explain the rules. Each question is worth 1000 points maximum, with the slower responses receiving less points.
When you are ready to begin, use the right arrow on your keyboard to advance from the Competitions welcome slide and navigate through the questions in your Competition.
Questions in a Competition have 4 different phases: Questions, Answers, Responses, and Leaderboard.
Question slide
You will see a screen with the question and the participant link.
Answer slide
When you are ready, advance the slide to show the answer options to your participants and start receiving responses. The question will stop accepting responses when the timer expires or you advance the slide if the timer is disabled.
Response slide
The response screen shows how the group responded to your question and indicates the correct answer.
Leaderboard
After each response slide is a leaderboard slide which shows you were each participant stands during the Competition. This only appears on your display. Participants will only see the final leaderboard slide.
Use the right arrow on your keyboard when you’re ready to move on to the next question in your Competition.
Responding to a Competition
Participants will respond to your Competition either on the web using your pollev.com/your-username response page or via the Poll Everywhere mobile app.
Helpful tip: For best results, make sure participants responding with the mobile app are using the latest version.
When you are ready, start your Competition. As you navigate through the question, your participants screen will correspond to what you are presenting.
First, your participants will see your Competition welcome slide as everyone gets ready for the Competition.
When you navigate to the Question slide, participants will see a screen with the question and the participant link on their computers or devices.
Advancing the slide to show the answer options to your participants will reveal the options on their screens.
Helpful tip: If you are using the Timed responses settings, participants will have a limited amount of time to respond. After the time is up, the question will lock and not allow further responses. If the timer is disabled, the question will stop accepting responses when you advance to the next slide.
When you navigate to the response slide to show the results chart, participants will see how many points they received.
After you’ve shown the response chart, you can navigate to the leaderboard slide. The leaderboard slide will appear on your screen after every question. However, only the final leaderboard will show on participant's screens at the end of the Competition.
